WindBorne Systems is supercharging weather forecasts with a unique proprietary data source: a global constellation of next-generation smart weather balloons targeting the most critical atmospheric data. We design, manufacture, and operate our own balloons, using the data they collect to generate otherwise unattainable weather intelligence.
Our mission is to eliminate weather uncertainty, and in the process help humanity adapt to climate change, be that predicting hurricanes or speeding the adoption of renewables. We are building a future in which the planet is instrumented by thousands of our microballoons, eliminating gaps in our understanding of the planet and giving people and businesses the information they need to make critical decisions. The founding team of Stanford engineers was named Forbes 2019 30 under 30 and is backed by top-tier investors, including Khosla Ventures and Footwork VC.
WindBorne is hiring Software Engineering Interns to help build our forecasting and insight products. While we’ve been selling atmospheric observations for years, we’ve only recently begun working on these products. Depending on your skillset and interest you will be working on the frontend and/or backend of these products and help our customers gain actionable weather insights and build resilience.
Highly variable depending on background skills and interests. You will be given the responsibility, respect, and trust that full time engineers get, and if you are good, there will be high potential to convert to full time.
Besides general software skills, the only things required are high agency, willingness to work extremely hard, and ability to learn very quickly. In the era of LLM’s, an individual with those attributes can accomplish almost anything. However, we are specifically interested in the following skills.
Ruby on Rails apps
Web Dev/Design
Linux & Python Infrastructure
Data Science/Machine Learning
C++ Firmware/ Flight Software
Scaling production systems
Office food and beverages (minimum 2x catered lunches & dinners a week)
Potential to convert to full-time, with all associated benefits
