WindBorne Systems is supercharging weather models with a unique proprietary data source: constellations of next-generation smart weather balloons targeting the most critical atmospheric data. We then combine that unique data source with the world’s most accurate AI weather models. Our long-term vision is to eliminate weather uncertainty, and in the process help humanity adapt to climate change, be that predicting hurricanes or speeding the adoption of renewables. The founding team of Stanford engineers was named Forbes 2019 30 under 30 and is backed by top investors including Khosla Ventures.

WindBorne has won federal contract awards every year since our founding. As this is a trend we will continue, we are hiring a Proposal Manager to own government proposal efforts, from capture through development and submission. Sitting at the cross-section of business development, product, and organizational strategy, you will be key to growth and federal go-to-market execution. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in both writing compelling deliverables and managing cross-functional projects.

We're dedicated to both mitigating climate change and helping humanity adapt to its effects as fast as possible, and you can be a part of our mission to make this global societal impact. If you like the idea of working on cutting edge technology, and working with a fast moving team, WindBorne is the place for you.

Responsibilities

This role differs from a traditional proposal manager in that your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of the proposal lifecycle. This chiefly includes the phases described below.

  • Capture: Identify and track relevant federal opportunities, and connect the dots between funding, solicitations, and customer needs.

  • Solutioning: Craft WindBorne solution messaging that meets stringent federal proposal requirements in partnership with engineering, product, and growth teams.

  • Proposal Drafting: Compose bespoke narrative interspersed with reference materials to draft technical and nontechnical proposal deliverables.

  • Review Management: Ensure timely review cycles from technical teams and update drafts accordingly.

  • Finalization and Submission: Perform compliance checks, to include content and formatting, and submit completed proposals to the government.

Skills and Qualifications

You don’t need to have proposal experience, but professional writing experience, or a degree in English, is required, as is experience working in a startup-like environment. Demonstrated experience adhering to project deadlines is also required. It is also required that all applicants send an email to proposalhiring@windbornesystems.com after submitting their application. You must be an extraordinary writer capable of adapting to the language nuances of varying customers. You should also be familiar with the push and pull of strength and tact required to adeptly deliver compelling prose in the proper tone. You are likely your friends’ go-to person for ad hoc copyediting, or perhaps you write creatively in your spare time.

At WindBorne we’re dedicated to revolutionizing the weather industry for the good of us all, and you can be a part of our mission to make this global impact. If you are thrilled by the idea of bringing cutting-edge technology to the federal government as part of a highly driven early-stage team, WindBorne is the place for you.
